Autopage is the most powerful family of QuarkXTensions for the automated page layout of books, textbooks, encyclopedias, directories and yellow pages.

Autopage is one of a family of XTensions to QuarkXPress that automate the layout of trade books, textbooks, journals, encyclopedias, directories and yellow pages. Autopage automatically places art, tables, footnotes, margin notes and margin art, producing visually balanced page spreads while eliminating orphans and widows.

Autopage 8.5 supports QuarkXPress' built in paragraph frames. This pair of spreads shows framed content completely contained on page 15 and another example of framed content split between pages 16 and 17. Autopage accounts for the outsets of the frame above and below the paragraph and the thickness of the frame in balancing pages. It also takes note of the Space Between feature of QuarkXPress.

Autopage 8.5 supports QuarkXPress' Space Between feature. The framed paragraphs in the spreads above have their Space Between set to zero while there Space Above and Below are non-zero. Autopage recognizes this and only accounts for the added space above and below the paragraph frame.

The attributes associated with tints that Autopage can place across a range of layouts can now be set with the Autopage palette. Tints can be set with either a library element or a color name. On page 3 of this spread there is a green tint spanning multiple layouts: single column spanning page, two column, single column and three column.

The tint comes from a library as indicated by the checkmark beside 'L' in the palette and the background library (BLiby) name is 'END' and it starts, 'S', with the selected one column layout. The final layout (three column) will have an 'E' to indicate it ends with that layout.

All of these tint related fields can be directly edited in the palette in addition to being defined with markup.

The initial single column layout also has a 'frame' associated with it which in this case is the gradient tint in the upper left of the green box. It is named 'END' and is defined by Autopage markup seen above the a palette.

This spread shows a tinted inline layout spanning from one page to another. However the preceding layout without a tint references two footnotes indicated by the red markers. Autopage recognizes the footnotes are in a different layout and leaves them out of the tint.

This spread also shows a tinted inline layout spanning from one page to another. However in this case the table and figures are referenced in the tinted text so they are also included in the tint.

Autopage can create complex frames around consecutive layouts and these can fall on a single page or span multiple pages. On this pair of spreads are two framed elements each having a frame named 'CA'. The frame is defined with markup seen above the palette.

The second story spans three pages and it can be seen that the framing is different for each of the three pages and differs from that of the story that fits on a single page.

These last two spreads show a variety of the frames and tints that Autopage can apply to varying layouts.

Autopage is the only automated page layout XTension for QuarkXPress for producing books, textbooks, directories and yellow pages. It does not require a special viewer XTension to view, edit or print the QuarkXPress documents it creates.
